Various Basements by Mr Gosh published on 2013-02-04T23:25:55Z Various Basements is a short example of recording in the Sound Mobile. The sound mobile was like a wind chime that you could walk through filled with resonant metal found objects (Junk). The third and best version started in 1986 and was set up in a big room in the basement of an old house. Resonant pipes, bike frames, different types of tanks and an assortment of metal junk and debris that sounded good when struck all hanging from the ceiling with guitar and bass strings. The objects could be hit with sticks or mallets, pushed around and back and forth so that when they swung they would hit each other. It was also possible and enjoyable to literally throw things into the mix as it were, and IT ALL MOVED and was never the same. Radio MPLS is one of my favorite examples of the wonderful randomness of spinning a radio dial. These were both recorded in the Summer of 1986.
