2013 Will Stelle At NW Straits Conference by Mountainstone published on 2013/11/25 07:07:22 +0000 Will Stelle, Administrator of NOAA's West Coast Fisheries, gives the "big picture" overview of current marine fisheries policy issues facing the coast from California to Washington. Presented as part of the 2013 NW Straits Annual Conference. Will Stelle was appointed as the Northwest Regional Administrator for NOAA Fisheries on June 1, 2010. From 2000 to 2010, he was an attorney with the Seattle offices of K&L Gates, an international law firm with offices in Asia, Europe and throughout the United States. Prior to his NOAA service, Mr. Stelle held a variety of natural resource-related positions with the federal executive and legislative branches in Washington, D.C. Mr. Stelle also served as the NW Regional Administrator in the 1990s, during the first round of listings of Pacific salmon under the Endangered Species Act. During his tenure, the Northwest Region formulated the basic architecture of the ESA salmon program for NOAA Fisheries, and entered into the first generation of conservation agreements under the ESA, with a wide range of industry sectors, and state, local and tribal governments. His experience and knowledge of these issues helps NOAA continue its mission to rebuild these resources and promote the region's social and economic aspirations that depend on them.
