The fact that the mighty St. Germain entrusted long-time friend Atjazz to be the opening act on his comeback album tour – 15 years after his last LP – speaks volumes about the UK house/afro/soul/jazz fusionist’s reputation. Producing since the mid-’90s when he released early material on free party legends Digs & Woosh’s DiY Discs imprint in tandem with scoring music for computer games (the original Tomb Raider, no less), he has had a prolific and hugely varied output. Five full-length albums; remixes for the likes of Nitin Sawnhey, Jazzanova, Bob Sinclar and of course St. Germain; his labels Mantis Recordings and now Atjazz Record Company; a collaborative project Version alongside Charles Webster; his catalogue is burgeoning. It made for ripe pickings for a soulful journey in his Monologues mix, packed with exclusives, classy vocals and the breadth of his styles.

*How would you describe your sound?*

Seriously hip-shaking beats with a very soft centre!

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I've always been inspired by jazz and Herbie Hancock is my hero. He's never stood still, he's always changed his sound, he's always innovated and his curiosity with technology is the same as mine. I also love Weather Report, anything on ECM and modern hip-hop soul. House music isn't something I listen too; it's something I live and do.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I wanted to create a mix that spanned across a few different times of my life, to show a little of my influences, collaborations and remixes, a tater menu if you will! There are many more better known pieces of work but I wanted to show a little more of "me".
