Away From Home by MoakJones published on 2013/01/24 23:04:12 +0000 Hey, my name is Jake Moon and I'm a senior Audio Production student. I recorded this poem using a Sony C38 for my vocal and a line-in from a Wurlitzer, going into an AudioBox VSL interface onto Pro Tools 10. The lyrics to this poem were inspired by a "Popular Music of South Africa" course I took last semester, and deal with concepts of disenfranchisement and removal of someone or something from its natural environment. Thanks for listening Lyrics: Day in, day out. Like looking through the cold iron pillars of restriction. The feeling of uncertainty beseeches one, as the door to freedom opens, for another days routine. Another day, another face. The feeling of identity becomes more obscure, another mask is washed away, only to the arrival of yet another new face. The reflection in the mirror yields new characters, as the horizons of the homeland fade. Back to the cell of disassociation, where the wait for the next begins. Unknown is the face, that will look back through the mirror tomorrow. So far removed from his original context, the ape transforms to man; as he peers once again into the mirror, only to see an unfamiliar face covered in American Cosmetics.
