Who is MixmstrStel?
MixmstrStel (say: Mixmaster Stel), also known as the Mixmaster, is a Boston-based DJ and producer known for making mashups and mixes in pop and dance, while taking the initiative to utilize genre clashes and give tracks a new twist.
What is Stelmix?
Stelmix (as one word) was always (and still is) a production label, not a person. I use it as a stamp of quality for every mix I've done alone since 2006. The MixmstrStel name did not come about until 2010. The Stelmix name was kept until mid-2013, when it was abandoned.
What is Mastered?
It is a seasonal mashup/edit bundle that I release as a playlist to the recent work I've released. It's important to compile and organize them in order to satisfy my current fans and DJs and acquaint newcomers to my work.
When MixmstrStel2 was live and kicking with thousands of followers, several mashups charted on SoundCloud's Pop and Rock charts. Three tracks went on to top the Pop chart (Stay By Me, Thnks Fr Th Drk Hrse, and Firew0rk H0me). Firew0rk H0me would go on to top the main Explore chart for a few hours.
My work has been featured on various blogs, including the prestigious Bootie Mashup blog, Mashup Your Bootz, SoSimpull, Remix Release, Barstool Beats, Beezo, Too Good For Radio, Steady130, GoodMusicInc.net, MashStix, Your Music Radar, Mixes and Mashups, Fist In The Air, Hypem, and MashupCiti, among many others.
The music video to Fanc7 Groove (Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX vs. Madonna) was featured on PerezHilton's social media pages.
My R0ar Brav3 extended edit/mashup (Katy Perry vs. Sara Bareilles) was featured on EW, MSN, Jezebel, and other news outlets.
My Ta1k Dirty and Pr0blem edits, and R0xanne's A Hideaway, Map Lockdown, and Infinite Daps On The Block mashups were all featured with shoutouts on the Kiss Mix for 101.9 Kiss FM in Memphis among many others in subsequent mixes.
My famous new-school vs. old-school mashup, This Is How We Party Rock, as well as my Va Va Voom edit, were both featured on the internationally syndicated Remix Top 30 Countdown (with Hollywood Hamilton) radio show.
What makes MixmstrStel unique?
I introduced the concept of multiple versions and "parts" to mashups to help DJs mix better and prevent off-key transitions from mixing radio edits.
This versioning started with the widely successful "We R Dynamite," which has SEVERAL versions (radio, album, mixshow, definitive).
My motto: Quality of mix over quantity of artists. Innovation, not imitation.
Clean versions to my mashups and edits are also released for radio stations.
How are these mashups created?
Using pro software, I create these mashups with the peace of mind that the overall song will be ON KEY when the tracks are blended together. The Mixmaster NEVER adds songs JUST for the sake of popularity.
Notable mashups (so far):
Thnks Fr The Drk Hrse (most played & liked with > 250k plays and > 4k likes)
Stay By Me
My Songs Know... (Light 'Em Up) (most popular edit that spread organically)
