Chased By A Black Dog by Mike Dooner published on 2012/04/09 00:45:13 +0000 I wrote and recorded this song not long after a friend of my wife's committed suicide. She suffered from bipolar disorder and fought it bravely for many years. On one sad day the Black Dog chased and caught up with her. The guitar riff throughout the song represents the continual running away from the Black Dog. The riff at the end of each verse represents running into obstacles whilst trying to escape. The screaming guitar solo represents a scream of anguish. A cry for help. At the time I had been out of work for nearly 8 months and was in my own deep, dark, depressed place. When writing and recording the song, I attempted to put myself in the place of someone suffering from bipolar dsorder. Jo, this is for you.
