Michèle Cusson Michèle Cusson Berlin Canadian soprano, Michèle Cusson is receiving critical acclaim internationally. As Contessa, The Epoch Times (New York) says “Cusson skillfully scaled-down her sizeable vocal assets to sing… “Dove sono”… [where] she fully inhabited the character, dramatically communicating her anguish… while serenely recalling the joys of her lost love in the expressively shaded lyrical aria that followed”. Recent engagements include her solo debut on National Chinese Television and Medici TV with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic and Hangzhou Orchestra with the iSing Festival, a solo appearance for the AMAO Gala Concert in Moscow, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with Calgary Concert Opera, Julia in Dvořák’s Jakobin with the Canadian Institute for Czech Music, Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta, the title role in Jenůfa with Toronto’s Opera By Request, a recital of Wesendonk Lieder at Galerie Forum Berlin am Meer, and a commercial CD release of Russian Romances with collaborative pianist Kathleen van Mourik prepared during her Artist Residency at the Banff Centre. Emerging into the dramatic repertoire, Ms. Cusson is working with Wagnerian soprano Deborah Polaski preparing roles from Wagner, Weber and Strauss as part of a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. This season she will debut Elsa in Lohengrin with Toronto’s Opera By Request, followed by two appearances with Calgary’s Mountain View Chamber Society: a chamber version of Wesendonk Lieder, and a chamber music recital of French Salon Music sponsored by the French Consul. Recognized for her strong characterization and interpretation abilities, the Calgary Herald says “Cusson’s straight-up Fiordiligi distinguished itself most with her show-stopping Act I stamina piece ‘Come scoglio’... a really commanding performance... she brought the required gusto and characteristic earnestness to the role”. Her competition achievements include: Finalist in the Liederkranz Wagner Division Competition (NYC), Semi-Finalist in the Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos (Covent Garden), Semi-Finalist in the Loren Zachary Competition (Los Angeles), and Prize Winner in the Zara Dolukhanova International Competition (Kaliningrad, Russia). Currently based in Berlin, Germany, Ms. Cusson is fluent English and French, intermediate German and conversational Italian and Russian. www.michelecusson.com Michèle Cusson’s tracks Stehe Still!
