Behm's current collaborators include Larry Wayne Clarke (they've written a song for American Idol star Scotty McCreery) and young Vancouver writer Kate Morgan. One of Michael's most fruitful creative partnerships has been with British guitar hero Steve Morris. A member of The Ian Gillan Band, Morris has written extensively with former Deep Purple singer Gillan. Over the past three years, the Morris and Behm team have created over 150 tracks for other artists and for film and television soundtracks.
Behm is increasingly in demand as a producer, a role in which his experience in other facets of the music industry is proving invaluable. As a solo artist and a songwriter, he knows the creative process inside out, and artists in many different musical genres are now benefiting from both that expertise and his unwavering commitment to excellence. Michael describes his approach to making music as "like making a cake with all real ingredients. I look for the highest quality content for each song I work on."
Through his extensive recording background, Behm has developed a strong sense of what makes a song great. "One thing I've learned producing is that without a compelling vocal a song will never be much of anything. If a song has emotional meaning that people can connect with, that's always the foundation. I like the songs I work on to be epic, to have those emotional high and low moments. In my productions, I use a lot of different instruments, from full orchestra with violins and cellos through to ebo and ukulele. I use whatever will serve the song."
In the past year, Behm has been working extensively with some of Canada's most talented and promising female vocalists. That list includes dance artists Miss Mercury (on the soon to be hit track "Yo Yo"), actor and Leo award winner Alexia Fast, Jona Kristinsson (of Wunderbread) and Celeste Levis, soulful vocal powerhouse Shelley Beeston (from Baby Jane), award-winning country songstress Angela Harris, Kate Morgan, Chandelle, and Texas based singer co-writer Alisong Smith.
Behm is truly international in his vision. He regularly works in studios in Nashville, Los Angeles and Vancouver at Blackbird, Oceanway studios, and (Bryan Adams' The Warehouse Studios, and The Armoury (the facility started by Bruce Fairbairn), as well as his own well-equipped Vancouver Island based studio. His right-hand man on many of his production projects is noted Vancouver engineer Delwyn Brooks. Michael and Delwyn have worked with British, American and European acts.
In turn, you can expect that many more artists will be making use of the multi-faceted talents of Michael Behm and his team in the future.
