The Music: Alongside an array of synthesizers, electronics, and collaborators, Michael Ash Sharbaugh drapes dreamy vocals over spacey instrumental melodies, hard-driving guitar parts, swelling basses, and pulsating rhythms and weaves them into atmospheric pop, space rock, experimental, and ambient soundscapes.
Michael is a musician who originally hails from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware scenes. There, he recorded solo and fronted several bands, such as ‘Distant Shores.’
His earlier sound is reminiscent of the pop, new-, and dark-wave sensations popular in the 1980s; recently, however, he has incorporated recording techniques, tones, and textures in use since the Mod and Psychedelic eras, and has merged them with His earlier, heavily processed, ‘cold,’ electronic sound.
In His own words, Michael seeks to produce a “spacey, contemporary aural soundscape that remains whole-heartedly retrospective.”
Michael’s deepest influences are The Weeknd, Duran Duran, Cocteau Twins, ABBA, Dead Can Dance, Bee Gees, Steve Stevens, Joe Meek, and Brian Eno.
