While most Christmas carols focus on the story of the Nativity in the past, one well-known hymn encourages Christians to look forward to the future. Did you know there is one Christmas Carol that is unlike all the others? The very popular song “Joy To The World” is not about the first coming of Jesus. This Christmas Carol is about the second coming of Jesus! 
Joy to the world was originally part of a book of poems written by the great English writer Isaac Watts in 1719 and it’s based on the 98th Psalm. The poem was never intended to be a Christmas song, or any kind of song for that matter and Mr. Watts never even knew he had just written one of his most famous hymns of all time.
A century later, a Boston music teacher named Lowell Mason discovered his poem and set it to music. Because it was released at Christmas time, “Joy To The World” quickly became a holiday favorite and it went on to become the most published Christmas carol in America.

“Joy To The World is about when Jesus comes back again finally and rules in power, justice and mercy.
This song is different because it talks about having joy. Having joy because Jesus was born.
“Joy To The World” invites all the people on earth and creation itself to join in singing a new song of “beautiful noise” celebrating God’s justice and victories.
This year I arranged the entire song. Played all the parts (except the drums) and sang all the vocals.
