Fans have dubbed soul-pop singer/songwriter Melany Watson’s aesthetic as a mix of modern and classic with a dash of southern ambience. Melany’s musicality channels 90s pop artists like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, with a tastefully textured vibe that conjures a throwback to a Carole King-like writing style steeped in the storyteller lineage of country music passed on to her from her Houston, TX upbringing. Melany blossomed as an performer while pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Commercial Music - Voice Principal with an emphasis in Music Business at Belmont University and in venues all over Nashville, TN.
Since moving to NYC in 2012, Melany has performed with artists Tori Kelly, The Roots, BIRDY, Alessia Cara, Marc E Bassey, Bebe Rexha, MAZ & Justin Stanton of SNARKY PUPPY, LORDE, Rayvon Owen and Leona Lewis. She has performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, Live with Kelly, The View, I HEART RADIO Youtube Series, The Elvis Duran Morning Show, Good Morning America and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Melany’s voice has also appeared on commercials for American Express, United Airlines, Acura and Honda.
In Summer 2015, she was awarded the highly coveted Abe Olman Scholarship via SESAC for her excellence in songwriting, joining highly respected previous winners such as John Legend, Comic Heroes, Bebe Rexha and Lori McKenna. Melany’s songwriting has also been praised in the taste-making publications American Songwriter, Baebel Music, and Digital Journal. Most recently, her song “Point Blank” (Sung by Donna Missal) was featured on the Fox TV comedy-drama fantasy series LUCIFER.
In Summer 2018, Melany will be releasing her first full length album produced by Brad Allen Williams (Cece Winans, Jose James, Cory Henry). Melany will also be featured on Justin Stanton’s (Snarky Puppy) debut Album and on Tim Kubart’s sophomore album "Building Blocks".
