I wrote this piece in 2016, starting from a simple chord progression, in a way that reminded me of soviet marches. I didn't know where to go with it, so I left it untouched for three years. I re-opened the file in March 2019, I was thinking about the beauty of the spring and women in general, due to women's day to come (March 8). Suddenly I was hit by a wave of strong feelings, and I had it all in my head: for some reason, I had to drag this piece of music from one extreme of music composition to the other. What was initially sounding like a soundtrack, had to become a proper Hardcore track. Listen to the new version here: https://soundcloud.com/mcintox/march
This is a style that I would call melodic Hardcore, or even better "Epic Hardcore". The project was quite busy with a mix of orchestral instruments, electronic synths, drums, and sound effects. To make the project even challenging, it had to go with tuned kicks, of course. Macking a kick sound right is advanced work for audio engineers, but not enough for me! As a bass drum manic, I enjoyed the challenge of mixing different tuned kicks from D1 up to D2, making them sound equally fat, loud, and punchy (you all know what happens when you pitch a kick, I would never do that). I created, processed, and mixed each tuned kick in its individual channel (D, D#. E...D2), and that made it 12 bass drum channels for this track alone. Everything then went through high-end converters and analog gear (tube compressor, mixer...).
The track was ready, but I was busy with my other life, so I didn't touch this track until March 2020. Days later, I finished the track, but then something bad happened, and you all know.
Finally, in October 2020 I decided to re-open this project for the last time, mix it, master it, and release it for you to enjoy. The last time I made a Hardcore track was 20 years ago, so this should answer some questions in advance...
Initially, I was going to name this track "March 8" but then I decide to cut it short, for I had several reasons as to why I had to call it just "March": Marching style, March the month, Women's day, the Spring, March 2020.
I wonder if people still read stuff on the Internet these days, and if you are of those very few left - those who read - and you enjoyed it, then leave a comment to stand out.
