Stay The Same [beat by TheBrokeUnknown] by MC Connect published on 2012/06/21 08:43:47 +0000 I was surfing soundcloud.com listening to a lot of different rappers when I began to realise that alot of these rappers had "similarities". The message of the majority started to meld into one - "It's me who's the king of rap". I even noticed rappers using the same lines in some cases. Now I don't want to stave off creative license but I felt something had to be said, and there are actually people out there with special abilities. These people tend not to change their whole life philosophies to "fit the trend". Above all we've got to get together and started a movement or a rap union, the kind KRS-ONE had in mind in the early nineties. We gotta get together to fight the powerful who try to confine our creativity and make us aspire to be this same "king of rap". Lets all play our own roles, with the talents that we have to serve hiphop as best we can. Don't forget what our hiphop forefathers were trying to achieve - recognition, equality and unity...not the unrecognisable me-tooism, status seeking and disparity. Be true about who you are and what you've achieved. Take your rap game seriously as if its going to be highly scutinised by the best in the business (not the critics) . And specifically to the Soundcloud community, its not about how many followers you have, its about the quality of experience you deliver to those you visit your page (few or many). Its great to have more listens, but what they hear matters, and I'm trying to deliver what you want to hear, and some of what you don't all for the progession of hiphop. There's things I've done I'm not proud of which I'll talk about in my raps to give my rhymes consistency with my life so that I am MC-CONNECT, not that I want to be MC-CONNECT. I know it could seem like I'm being a downer about the state of hiphop but I really mean the opposite, there's a hell of a lot of quality on the scene and I think I reflect in this track. I encourage everyone who wants to have a go at rhyming, its just no good copying or wanting to be something that you're not. Just talk about you or tell a good story. Don't say I'm the king of rap when you really can't be. Got any feedback, inbox me with your thoughts, I'll get back to ya.
