Matthew Morgan is an urban folk singer/songwriter who has built a loyal following in Chicago's independent music scene. With an appreciation for music from a bygone era he sketches his sonic canvas combining his lyric tenor voice with skillfully woven glimmers of American folk, country, rock and blues that clearly references such musical heros as Neil Young and Bob Dylan, but is also strongly influenced by acoustic outsiders like Nick Drake and Elliott Smith. A multi-instrumentalist he crafts his songs playing the guitar, piano, organ, harmonica, and a variety of other stringed instruments. Released in 2011 Matthew's debut CD “Red Silhouettes” is a tour de force in “Do It Yourself” recording. Entirely self produced and engineered he performs nearly every instrument himself with a few notable musicians and friends adding exuberance to the mix. “Red Silhouettes” is loosely based on surviving stories and letters that reveal the hardships and daily struggles of those present during the American Civil War. On the heels of his successful solo release Matthew quickly assembled a band of talented musicians who ultimately became known as Matthew Morgan and the Lost Brigade (MMLB). Building up a loyal fan base and playing a series of well-attended local shows, in 2012 MMLB partnered with CAUDog Records of Chicago, IL to record their debut album "Found" with producer Ellis Clark. In December 2013 the band performed their CD Release to a packed house at Chicago's famous Double Door, which ultimately led them to play venues across the Mid-west and Southern states that included a successful showcase at the SXSW festival in Austin, TX. In addition, “Found” was nominated for three Indie Music Channel awards and Songs from the album have been played on 140 college radio stations across the United States. To date the band has signed several licensing deals with television production companies for shows featured on MTV, the Disney Channel, the Discovery Network, and Viacom via Tinderbox Music. Toward the end of 2013 Matthew amicably parted ways with The Lost Brigade to pursue music in a different direction. While the other band members continue to write their own music and tour as a group he is currently recording a solo EP with producer Nate Lockwood of Canton, OH with an anticipated release date in 2015. Matthew grew up in Ohio where he attended music school, majoring in vocal performance. He is also an accomplished painter having shown his fine art regularly as a member of the Flat Iron Artist's Association (Chicago, IL).
