matteo scaioli MATTEO SCAIOLI Faenza Born in Ravenna, Italy in 1968, Matteo Scaioli developed a strong musical interest at a very early age and began to teach himself to play the drums. Encouraged by his rapid development he soon began to learn other percussion instruments including the Indian tabla. At the age of 21 he traveled to Calcutta to study under the renowned maestro Pandit Shanka Chatterjee. From this time Matteo embarked on a period of heavy practicing in which he departs from the classical traditions and creates his own personal and unique playing style. Soon he is performing with well known musicians such as EDDY POWELL, Krishna Bhatt, Debiprasad Gosh, and Paolo Giaro (with whom he recorded for Amiata Records). In the mid-90's Matteo began to devote himself to a project which took him in a new direction incorporating the practice of Japanese drums (taiko). This new project involved a long term musical partnership with Roman percussionist Maurizio Rizzuto. Their first major success was a musical project called "Musica In Gioco" in which Matteo and Maurizio performed together with a group of Matteo's tabla students. The performance was extraordinarily well received and drew high praise from the Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti who himself was also performing at the same festival. Encouraged by this success the group "PERCUSSION VOYAGER" was born, This group performs for years in the best European clubs and festivals, in particular, in October 2000 they play at Localizza World Music Festival in Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Matteo has also performed with Claudio Coccolute at the Wawe Festival and "MTV LIVE TOUR" which marks to beginning of his research into electronic music played using analog synths from the 70's and 80's, hence launching Matteo into a new, refreshing, and highly creative period of his career, manifesting in the birth of the group "LIQUID DESIRE". In 2007 Matteo performs for the first time a solo set with only the use of analog machines. He received strong appreciation by Howe Be. In 2008 he began work on working on a solo CD on which he begins to incorporate his own vocals. The CD was recently released by Margot Records. In 2012 Margot Records also releases the Tannoiser Ep. In 2012 Matteo collaborated with David Riondino and Massimo Ottoni in the theatrical project "Pinocchio Di Sabbia" which performs in 2013 as part of a Festival in Roma directed by Patti Smith who attends Matteo's performance and thereafter is heard declaring him as a "great musician". Also in 2013 Matteo works with David Loom on a project "Loud Landing" with performs at the "Arena Delle Balle Di Paglia". At the same time he begins work on a project called "Man Lost in Space" which is part of the "O(Ax) = dO(Am)" festival held at the Planetarium in Ravenna, which was highly successful with audiences and critics alike. In 2014 Matteo together with David Loom create the "Foley Mandala" project which premiered, with much success, in the Ravenna Festival which is one of the most important classical music and contemporary dance festivals in the world. Matteo is currently in the studio preparing a new CD for Margot Records. This new music will feature a strong use of real percussion instruments such as the Udeki and Cangira in place of drum machines. matteo scaioli’s tracks Slower by matteo scaioli published on 2016-08-20T19:09:48Z Ruggine -Matteo Scaioli /David Smith by matteo scaioli published on 2016-04-04T13:51:34Z TII KETAK by matteo scaioli published on 2015-09-14T18:28:45Z LUNAR ROVING by matteo scaioli published on 2014-12-24T00:48:13Z ODE ONDA by matteo scaioli published on 2014-03-19T01:18:36Z
