Mathieu Aupitre, better known by his stage name “Mateo”, is a french saxophonist, arranger and vocalist currently part of the Playing For Change Band.
His style is mostly influenced by afro-latin and afro-american music.
At the same time as his studies of jazz and musicology in Toulouse, Mateo attended classes with renowned saxophonists - Kenny Garret, Rick Margizza, Eric Barret, François Theberge - and debuted on the professional music scene performing World music, Jazz, Funk and Afro-Cuban music - particularly at the festivals Jazz in Marciac and Tempo Latino.
After being graduated he moved to Barcelona in 2008, and since then he has performed with renowned artists such as Anga "el Indio de la Revé", Robin Reyes, Carlos Sardui, Kumar Sublevao, Orbe Ortiz, Laura Flores, Ray Cuza, Vicenc Solsona (afrocuban jazz/traditional), Munir Hosnn, Alan Da Sousa, Jurandir Santana, Mark Aanderud, Ramiro Pinheiro (brazilian jazz), Bino Barros, Xumo Nunjo, "Tula" Tal Ben Ari (World music), Mel Seme, Enrico Moreira, Gigi Mc Farlane, Clarence Milton Bekker, James Kakande (Pop-Soul)...
His versatile collaborations brought him to many recording sessions and concerts in Spain and through Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
Mateo is currently part of the Playing For Change Band, participating in music videos, touring regularly across the 5 continents and performing with famous artists such as THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, James Gadson(MOTOWN), Ellis Hall (TOWER OF POWER), Lee Oskar (WAR), John Densmore (THE DOORS), Vasti Jackson (B.B. KING)
