Eternal by Mary Coss published on 2015-12-11T23:05:04Z Conceived by Mary Coss Composed by Roxy Coss Artwork by Mary Coss My artwork reflects on customs within our social landscape. I’m exploring a narrative using artifacts, the cultural remnants of life, told through visuals and sound. In the sculpture Vow thirteen wedding gowns cover the framework of a 10’ tall pelvic bone to speak to the story of birth and rebirth, the ties that bind, a union of souls, cultural memory passed from one generation to another. The soundtrack Eternal tells the story of the life cycle through sound. The heartbeat sets a bassline and creates a foundation to tell the story. The soundtrack was created in collaboration with my two daughters. Roxy’s composition merges the heartbeat with her tenor saxophone music and the rhythms of tap dance by my younger daughter, Sam. Traces, the exhibition’s namesake gives voice to the lost identities of my foremothers. Surrounding the gallery is 120 linear feet of maiden names written in wire that were lost in marriage and gone before their time. Genre soundart
