Marshall Love
North Manchester
After more than five years in the making, Marshall Love, is ready to jump into the Indie Hip Hop scene with the release of his debut project, “IND OF TRUE.” This brand of socially conscious music is deeply rooted in the “old school.” Inspired by artists like J.Cole, MGK, Lecrae, Logic, and classics like Biggie, Ice Cube, and Run DMC, Marshall writes lyrically empowered messages to paint vivid arcs for listeners to follow, all while providing a smooth, yet energetic vibe. And it was all set into motion by the strong bond of friendship.
In 2012, following the death of a close friend, Charles Lovett, re-read an old Facebook message that would transform him forever. Contained in the message exchange, the two friends discussed a possible comic book project they one day wanted to pursue, in which the main character, Sheriff Love, would patrol a post-apocalyptic world. The objective of his mission was to be a voice of reason in an age where rational thought had fallen extinct, and a return to animalistic instinct ran rampant.
After re-reading this exchange, Charles, came to the decision to honor his dear friend by moving forward with a version of this project. The catch was, however, that he possessed not one ounce of artistic talent. As a former music major at Manchester University in North Manchester, IN, and a lifetime lover and amateur performer of Hip Hop and R&B, Charles decided to embody the persona of their comic book hero, and with a tweak to the character’s name, became Marshall Love.
Don’t expect any gimmicky sheriff’s garb or theme’s to accompany Marshall’s music or performances. However, you will hear the underlying tones of the originally discussed project, and better understand the thought process and belief system behind the man. He’ll be the first to admit, that this endeavor has carried far beyond first expectations, but in its pursuit, he has found a place for himself and a community of people who understand the struggles and successes of creating music. Marshall learned quickly that struggle is a major player in the music world, and that one must adapt quickly, or quickly fall off completely.
“INDOFTRUE,” came together very fast from a song writing standpoint, but took quite a long time to perfect. Once Marshall started to feel comfortable with a song lyrically, he would start to feel a disconnect with the music, or vice versa. Each of the songs that will appear on the soon completed final project have survived multiple versions and changes, but all of them ultimately came out on the other side better and more polished than ever thought possible, which is a major triumph for Marshall, considering he recorded half of them from the sleeper cab of his semi.
From October of 2015 to October, 2017, Marshall Love was a long haul truck driver, spending weeks on the road away from his wife and son. Every minute away from his family was grueling and emotionally torturous, but it not only allowed him to provide the home and security he wanted for his family, but the opportunity and time to dedicate to finally finishing his album. With his Samson USB mic, Sonar DAW program, and ten year old laptop, Marshall managed to record and mix half of his project and revive a passion for music. Now as the end of 2017 draws nearer and 2018 is upon us, Marshall is anxious and excited to release these songs to the world, and begin on his next musical journey.
