HOLY BREAD | Ensemble Modern by Marios Joannou Elia published on 2016-01-28T22:57:22Z "Holy Bread" is a work by Marios Joannou Elia for amplified string quartet (violin solo and string trio)composed in 2004. Klangspuren Festival Schwaz Ensemble Modern, cond. Franck Ollu, sound dir. Norbert Ommer The alchemist Paracelsus (1493-1541)once wrote, “Those who think that all fruits ripen at the same time as strawberries, understand nothing about grapes”. The remaining texts are by the poet Montis, from his last interview shortly before his death. The interview ends with a characteristically sceptic and painful expression on his face: “Tell me honestly, do I smile?” The second phrase "It is hard for me to believe that..." is taken incomplete and derives from his poem “Moments of the Invasion”. Strawberries and Grapes was written soon after Montis’ death and has a requiem-like character. Musical gestures were taken from W.A. Mozart’s piano sonata KV 332, Allegro. The composition consists of tempered, quarter and micro tones. Genre Contemporary Music Comment by Johnny Alvarez Is this to be found on a CD? If yes, where can I buy it?
