Mareike Wiening Mareike Wiening New York City Mareike studied jazz at the University of Performing Arts, Mannheim, Germany and completed a year long exchange at Rytmik Musikkonservatory (Copenhagen, Denmark) in 2010. During her time in Copenhagen, Mareike studied with Jonas Johansen, Django Bates, Kresten Osgood and Marilyn Mazur. In Mannheim, Mareike learned from Prof. Michael Küttner where she recieved her degree, a Bachelor of Music (University of Performing Arts, Mannheim) in 2011. Outside of her jazz education she won several competitions and awards both in Jazz and Classical between the ages of 10 to her current age of 25. Mareike is a former member of the German Youth Jazz Orchestra (Bundesjugendjazzorchester- BuJazzO) and a member of the swiss award band „Generations 2010“ conducted by Adrian Mears. In April 2011 „Generations 2010“ recorded a CD which was released on the Montreux-Jazzlabel TCB. As a sidewoman Mareike has played on several albums. (f.e. Johannes Ludwig Quintett feat. Johannes Enders- Nagel&Heyer Records, Christoph Neuhaus Quintett- Unit Records) As a student, she was selected to represent the University of Mannheim at the IASJ Meeting 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil with artist director Dave Liebman. Mareike is a cultural laureate of her hometown Herzogenaurach as well as the county Erlangen- Höchstadt in Bavaria, Germany. In 2012, she moved to New York City after recieving the DAAD scholarship from Germany for two years. Mareike was enrolled at the master program at New York University where she has studied with Tony Moreno, Stefon Harris, Kenny Werner, Dave Pietro and many more. She received her degree Master of Music in spring 2014. Mareike has played at ENJOY JAZZ Festival, Women in Jazz Festival and at important European venues such as “Unterfahrt” Munich, “Jazzstudio” Nürnberg as well as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Carnegie Hall and the Blue Note in New York City.
