Centella (sen - táy - ya)
spark; flash of lightening
The aptly-named Marco Centella usually provides the same response when asked to capture his style in words – it’s impossible to describe briefly. In order to fully understand the musical elements that comprise one of his sets, you’d have to know that "Centella" is not a misnomer. Nicknamed "Flash" by friends who couldn’t help but notice his frequent, sudden bursts of energy, Centella is known for his vibrant style that never ceases to animate the dance floor. It’s these lively sets that have turned him into a crowd-pleasing favorite whose fans range in their scope of musical preferences. In a typical set, he has been known to drop hard-hitting hip hop, rock, and rousing vocal anthems, all intermingled with the occasional unruly and unexpected electro beats.
His varied taste in music aside, Centella’s unique deejay style is enhanced by his natural musical ability. Born into a family with deep musical roots, he is also a formally trained musician who excelled at his study of the drums, piano, guitar, and bass. Armed with these technical skills and a budding interest in turntablism, Centella was prompted to compete in the world-renown DMC DJ Competition. It is the synthesis of these diverse experiences that accounts for his ingenuity in mixing and matching his choice of tracks, all while showing off his distinct scratching style.
A testament to his talent, Centella has garnered a reputation that speaks for itself. That eminence precedes him, and in just four years of professional deejaying, he has earned residencies at a number of top NJ/NYC nightclubs such as Pacha NYC, Harrah's Pool, and Providence AC. Never one to limit himself, Centella frequently breaks out of the traditional club setting in favor of larger events, including outdoor festivals like The Bamboozle.
Currently, Centella's sets are available to the masses through his Radio FG USA show, where he delivers weekly episodes of his unpredictable, high-energy mixes. Most recently, he has found himself deeply focused on his original productions. This work includes several eclectic tracks, along with his forthcoming EP, Delayed, which is slated for a winter release on Beatport and iTunes.
