Marcell Marias
Seattle
I compose and perform electronic music, and also DJ my favorite tracks from other inspiring artists. My EPs and tracks appear on Uniting Souls Music, Munchies After Dark, Late Night Munchies, and The Seed. I also self-release under no label, but I’m working on establishing one. I compose soundtracks, having completed scores for two full-length movies. My video credits are numerous, including music and sound design for several short movies and video projects.
As a remix artist, I enjoy working with other artists' sonic palettes just as much as I like composing my own music. I love to remix other artists' work, with several completed for Global Vortex, The Seed, and Munchies After Dark.
I've collaborated with several pioneering artists including Berlin-based DJ Tanith as the duo FATALIST in Wiesbaden, Germany in the 80s. I formed TEKNOSPHERE in the 90s with Bill Kraemer, a prolific DJ and producer who runs The Seed label. Other collaborations include Dusk, with Simone Shannon; Collabo and Dugo Huzo, with David Halsell; and work with UK singer/songwriter Henta and surround sound guru David Miles Huber. Some of my sonic contributions include Henta's Grammy-nominated release "Laserium for the Soul" and David Miles Huber's Grammy-nominated album “Colabs”.
It all started in Colorado Springs in 1984. I formed a collaboration with Danny Stewart named Memento Mori (“remember the dead” in Latin). We were very goth, and nothing like other bands in the city! The only venues that would have us as synth goth experimenters were Club Annex, a gay club in Colorado Springs and Auntie Moon's in Manitou Springs. Soon after our inaugural gigs, I inadvertently became an Army brat and moved to Germany. I found myself quickly attending concerts and clubs in and around Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.
My years in Germany were my favorite part of my life, as I was fortunate enough to be present for the beginnings of the electronic music scene. My main influence was Chris & Cosey, whose experimental electronic sound and synth wizardry made a great impression. Other influencers were Front 242, Einsturzende Neubauten, Dead Can Dance, The Cure, Depeche Mode, and other electronic, experimental, goth & industrial bands. By the end of the 80s, I was moving my body to the wonderful sounds of New Beat, Acid House, and Techno at various dance clubs in Germany.
