Annie + Curtis Kamiya
Honolulu, United States
It's a he said/she said story, really. He saw her perform and was smitten. Six months later, she saw him perform and had to have his number. Fifteen years on, Curtis and Annie Kamiya are the husband and wife duo behind the island soul/jazz group Mango Season, and their love story lives on in their music. Mixing west coast 70's pop with soul and jazz, layering on classic island grooves with lush harmonies, Mango Season's sound is a backyard dance party, smoky lounge club, hot Hawaiian night, and chronicle of good times all bottled into one.
Formed in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi in 2009, Mango Season writes, records and produces original music that traces a lifetime of heartbreak, minimum-wage jobs, world travels, friendships, social justice, and love. Their live performances showcase Annie's pillow-talk vocals with Curtis' driving acoustic guitar and singer/songwriter sensitivity. Rounding out the core duo sound, Mango Season plays with different local talent the likes of saxophonist Chris Yeh of Air, bassist and vocalist Wil Tafolo of M.O.J.O. and Truflo, and drummer/percussionist Rory Loughran of The Pulse Prophets.
Their first EP "Mango Sample," released independently in winter 2010, features the diverse musicality, joy, and passion for music-making that fans universally groove to and find captivating to watch. Mango Season is currently recording their debut, full-length CD for release in winter of 2013. Mango Season is happily available as entertainment for events, weddings, festivals, and parties.
