Since first stepping into the DJ Booths of his home town of Brisbane in 2007, Manesh Magan has proven himself as one of the most versatile selectors in the Queensland capital. From his currently favoured vocal-heavy deep house to classic funk, soul and hip hop right through to the peak time techno sounds he initially made his name with as part of the Digital Divide DJ tag-team, Manesh’s knowledge of and passion for the music he loves always shines through – and when behind the decks, the energy he brings to the party is as much about being an entertainer as an educator.
His favoured set-up for delivering big room techno sounds is Traktor Pro, with a Kontrol interface running four virtual decks so he can fully utilise the platform’s looping capabilities and multiple effects channels. When funk is on the menu at bars like The Brunswick Social and Barsoma he switches to a vinyl-powered Traktor Scratch platform, while when he’s in the zone with his preferred melodic house sound – spinning the music of established producers like Vincenzo, Shur-I-Kan and Gui Boratto alongside emerging production guns Danny Daze and Eats Everything – he leaves the technology at home in favour of a simple CDJ-based approach so the music itself can tell the story.
Whether playing by day or by night, by a pool, under the stars or in the club, with Manesh Magan at the controls you know what you’re going to get – a cleverly blended selection of complimentary tunes as perfectly tuned for your ears as they are to get your body moving.
