Day 5 - Carnegie3 conference closing - 7 September 2012 by Mandela Initiative published on 2017-01-25T10:52:26Z Closing session of the five-day conference entitled, “Towards Carnegie3: Strategies to Overcome Poverty & Inequality” at the University of Cape Town, September 2012, including an address by the Deputy President of South Africa, Kgalema Motlanthe. Over 500 people attended the conference which was the start of a process, at the request of the National Planning Commission, to bring together academics, government officials and civil society organisations to share ideas and models for effective action in keeping with the goals spelt out in the National Development Plan, notably the elimination of poverty and the significant reduction in inequality.
