Simone, better known by her stage name MAMA or Mona Lazette, is British singer/songwriter raised and based in Streatham Hill, London. MAMA writes, plays and produces her own music. She is a self-taught music maker, inspired by experimental electronic sounds. She’s been creating her own unique blend of house, techno, boundary-defying RnB and trip-hop for over 10 years and counting.
Her dance music connection evolved with a move to Berlin between 2010-2015, touched by the nightlife and the artistic community, MAMA was writing constantly. Friendships ignited on dance floors, which rolled over into after-party jamming sessions, which also inspired her own bedroom studio productions.
In 2010, her home-recorded songs drew the attention of Bloc Party’s frontman Kele Okereke who saw her performing live at MAMA and Hannah Holland’s infamous East London club night ‘Batty Bass'. Kele immediately arranged for her to be his opening act on his 2010 European tour. After the tour, MAMA propelled to headlining underground club venues/festivals in as far afield cities as Shanghai, Abuja, Morocco, Moscow and throughout Europe. She captivated audiences from Berghain Halle Berlin, Moulin Rouge in Paris to Glastonbury, UK.
On stage, MAMA brings it all together dripping with sophisticated sensuality. Performing with a live drummer, she takes the audience on a journey from heartfelt moments to complete crowd surfing mania.
MAMA also became a prominent vocalist for house and techno’s finest DJs and producers. MAMA has over 80 releases on many of the most respected underground dance record labels; from Crosstown Rebels, Bpitch Control, Get Physical, Batty Bass Records, Watergate Records & more
A long list of new connections sparked the creation of an album she made with Greek international DJ Argy titled “Dominonation” released on Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control label in 2015.
MAMA released a stream of vocal features for Grammy-nominated German duo Tiefschwarz, Emanuel Satie, Hannah Holland, and more. These, in turn, inspired remixes from award-winning Dj, Solomon, who’s version of “Corporate Butcher” remained number one in the Beatport dance charts for 6 weeks in 2012. Further remixes of her vocals were produced by Hot Since 82, platinum-selling Paul Kalkbrenner, Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, Pan Pot, Life & Death, Rampa, Alan Fitzpatrick and more.
In the midst of all the collaborations and featured works, MAMA recorded her self-released debut solo album “Dreams of Liberty”, in 2014. Its dark, seductive songs reflect on her search for freedom, forming a deep and shadowy journey into MAMA’s personal life in Berlin.
After more than 3 number 1 hits under her belt, MAMA returned to London in 2015 to reconnect with her roots and awaken new ideas. Kicking off with a solo EP “Unmask Me” on Hannah Holland’s Batty Bass Records released in October 2017 to stunning reviews from some of dance music’s finest artists.
