Magnus Mehta is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer known primarily for his work as a percussionist
Via extended field trips to Cuba, Morocco, Turkey and India, Magnus has built up an extensive knowledge of musical cultures and traditions and has earned a reputation for his creative and innovative approach to percussion.
Magnus releases music under the moniker "Magnus P.I" and leads Penya, an Afro-Latin electronic band, in which he plays telecaster, percussion and electronics. He also works regularly with acclaimed alternative jazz groups "Melt Yourself Down" and "Collocutor" and is a member of the medieval band "Joglaresa"
Magnus's session credits include recording for Oscar winning composers Stephen Warbeck, Gabriel Yared, and Howard Shore, on numerous film and TV scores including "The Hobbit, an unexpected journey," and the Channel 4 drama "Indian Summers"
Magnus has worked for many UK theatre companies including the National Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe, the RSC, the National Theatre of Scotland, Matthew Bourne's "New Adventures", Ballet Rambert and several West End productions including Bend It Like Beckham, The Lion King, Latin Fever and We Will Rock You.
Magnus's other credits include the BBC Scottish Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera and Ballet, the hKippers, Sacha Silva, and a duo with guitarist Dario Rossetti Bonell. Magnus was a percussion finalist in the 1998 BBC Young Musician of the Year.
