Synaptic Gridlock - Dæmon by Bob Ries published on 2014/06/15 00:53:00 +0000 This is one of the last recordings my brother, Kevin "Guggy" Ries, did before he passed in 1999. It was included on a sampler (see notes below) and was to also be one of the tracks on a full-length release through Space Age Recordings. It is possible that copies of the other material composed and recorded by Guggy for the Space Age release, but attempts to contact those who may have the recordings have failed. I am also trying to track down any recordings of Hundred Pieces that feature Kevin. If anyone has any of these (or the Synaptic Gridlock) recordings, please contact me. Here's the notes from the sampler from which his track Dæmon is included: This album represents and epitomises some of the most interesting music emerging globally for a new generation of sound-consumers. Many of the bands involved in this project have worked with several or all of the labels involved and the labels (Space Age, Ochre & Earworm) as much as the bands, whilst having their own unique vision, overlap like some kind of subsets of each other - hence our unity here. None of the artists included heard each other's tracks until after the final compilation of the performance. Somehow however, the record unfolds and reveals, with the purity and continuity of the output of a single ingenious artist such is the cohesion of this collection. These similarly aligned yet unique sound makers INTERFACE here to produce a unique collection of moods and atmospheres, as beautiful yet demanding as sound itself. Truly music for a new millennium, with an openness and optimism and unpretentiousness only possible when ego and dogma are rejected in the face of the seemingly forgotten possibilities of the powers and beauty of sound.
