Macarena Montesinos Macarena Montesinos Vigo, Galicia. Cellist, improviser, artist and researcher from Vigo, Galicia, Spain. Currently, Macarena is doing her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, University of Vigo, researching on the music notation used for free improvisation and performance in contemporary music. From a very young age she has collaborated with classical orchestras, jazz bands, and others artists from different disciplines. Improvisation has been a constant practice throughout her whole career and musicianship. She has been a member of the free improvisation orchestra O.M.E.Ga (Spontaneous Music Orchestra of Galicia) and METAMOVIDA. She is one of the founders and an active member of the H.A.L.O collective, responsible for the weekly sessions of free improvisation held in Vigo and other Galician cities. Macarena is one of the components of the string quartet Suelen Estar Quartet (violin, cello, viola and double bass)and of the duo 23RedAnts (cello and electronics). So far, she has released a dozen albums published with other sound artists on European and American labels such as Creative Sources (PT), Pan y Rosas (USA) or Setola de Maiale (IT). Since the 2000’s she has worked as a creator, interpreter and composer of sound spaces in contemporary dance projects such as Ensaio amor, Silencio por Favor, LP4am, … She has also produced music for audiovisual projects such as documentaries, short films, full-length films and video art.
