Under a veil of weed smoke, Ma'anish were formed in late 2011 by
Barak Paryente, Shaul Eflal and Meitar Elazary in the northern parts of Israel.
Experienced musicians, all having played in various successful local acts,
They began jamming and writing material
Influenced by different genres such as Death metal, Progressive Metal, Grunge, Jazz, Blues and Classic Rock.
After some time of playing together, the band was looking for a vocalist.
During the searches, a single entitled "Impossibilities" was released,
which drew the attention of local crowd all over Israel.
Eventually, Ari Cohen was introduced to fill the spot of vocalist and main lyricist.
By 2014, while cooperating with various artists such as
Youri Raymond (Ex - Cryptopsy, Unhuman), Matt Turkington (Animus Complex),
Dan Swano and Costin Chioreanu, the band already had a full album done,
composed and produced Independently.
Ma'anish's style is unique.
An interesting mix of fast-paced killer riffs,
followed by sophisticated Jazz/Fusion transitions
And head-shattering breakdowns, powerful mixed clean and growl vocals
- all combined with a crunching live sound
That makes their Debut album "Under the fig Tree" a must hear for every metalhead out there.
Under The Fig Tree was written over a course of two years.
Ma’anish were formed in late 2011 and began the work of writing and composing all while living up
Long time friends, Barak (Guitars) and Shaul (Bass) were already familiar with each other as musicians
and the cooperation between the two was a winning combo.
It didn’t take very long for Meitar (Drums) to get synched in with them, and after a year all the music
was fully written and recorded.
It is only in late 2012 that Ari (Vocals) was introduced to the band, and lyrics became intertwined along
with the music.
The music is hard to be classed to a single genre.
Due to the fact that throughout the writing process no “genre restrictions” were applied, and no single
idea was being ruled out doe to “artistic risks”, the result was interesting to say the least.
In the music you can hear traces of Heavy Metal, Jazz, Funk, and even Grunge.
Under The Fig Tree was recorded live, thus the sound is rugged and rusty, yet tight and heavy all the
The lyrics represent different ideas and conceptions, some of political nature, some of human nature,
and some of criticism of certain situations.
For example, the song “Let It Burn” is about the legalization of Cannabis, which is an issue all Ma’anish’s
members are very passionate about.
The song “Biomechanichal Reformatory” presents a situation where we, as humans, build a machine-like
prison within ourselves, barring others from getting in and us from getting out.
All hand on deck – Under The fig Tree is an album most definitely worth having and listening to, it is a
genuine product of pure passion for music and art, and also weed. Lots of weed.
