Emerging from the heart of Amsterdam’s club scene, Lupe carries out a mission of unity through his music and parties.
Drawing inspiration from acid house and disco while interjecting his vocals and lyrics, the resulting self-expression sets Lupe out from the competitive local scene, aided by his vast knowledge of house music and culture. His music releases like Shake and Give Me Body are supported by artists such as Alinka & Shaun J Wright, The Black Madonna, Derrick Carter, Heidi, Andy Butler, Tom Trago, Azari & III, Terry Farley and many more.
He organized many club parties in his hometown since 2004 such as Get On Down, UNK, Acid Nouveau and Italo Elite which won the award for Best Party (2010) at the infamous Dutch Golden Gnome Awards. He was also nominated Best Newcomer DJ (2005) and Most Sexy DJ (2009).
This triple talent of producing, deejaying and party-organizing began exploring dance music with a childhood Christmas gift, the aptly-named Acid House compilation on the Jack Trax label that started his record collection. Music took over, dancing was the only option. Aged 16 he became a go-go dancer. Insatiably learning about artists and labels, he evolved from club kid to dance music connoisseur. He graduated from university in Film studies. Then Lupe decided to create fantasy worlds for others: on the dance floor.
The Give Me Body EP featuring Josh Café with Spencer Parker remixes released on Alinka & Shaun J Wright’s Twirl Label, brings him in an international spotlight and wins support from Marcel Dettmann, Alan Fitzpatrick, Soul Clap, Mystic Bill, Honey Soundsystem, Huxley, Busy P, Truncate, Ame, Laurent Garnier, Jamie Jones and many more. Iconic producer Giorgio Moroder responded to Lupe’s edit of a Donna Summer track: ‘Hello, Lupe! I really like and appreciate your edit. It has a great beat.’
Lupe played at major Dutch venues and festivals like Trouw, Paradiso, Studio 80, 11(rip), 5DaysOff, Mysteryland, NOW&WOW, Dance Valley, ID&T’s Inner City and
Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour after-party at Heineken Music Hall. Internationally he played at Exit Festival (Serbia), Dalston Superstore (London), Cookies (Berlin), The Hall (Istanbul) and many other venues.
He is happy to have starred next to artists he admires such as Erol Alkan, Tiga, Hercules & Love Affair, Steffi, DJ T, Shinedoe, Prosumer, Tama Sumo, San Proper, Miss Kittin, Honey Dijon, Booka Shade, DJ Haus and many more.
I bring a new identity for dance, for men and women, straight and gay, black and white and so on. There is nothing to be scared of in each other. Nightlife is a designated area to overcome our differences in daily life, where we see each other free in a new light.
