LUNAR FIRE performances involve a multimedia trans-cultural musical spectacle whose aim is to inspire, connect and empower people to create positive change in the world. Pre-Columbian flutes, multilingual vocalists, powerful drummers, live bass and guitars tell stories reflected in dance. Aerialists, fire spinners and masked performers glow brightly in colorful uv active fabrics first woven by various indigenous tribes from around the world then re-constructed by the dancers to create a visual symbol honoring the unity of all cultures. World class musicians glide smoothly from gypsy rock to latin hip-hop, tribal drumming, and epic psychedelic trance jams. Outdoor fire shows illuminate the night burning staff, wick on chain, ropes, fans, fingers, hand held palm torches, machetes, hula hoops, even antlers. Originating in 2002 in Guatemala and based in Denver CO, members of Lunar Fire have toured over a decade together in various projects (INTI, Kan'Nal, Lil Sum'n Sum'n, Future Simple Project) at hundreds of festivals (Burning Man, LIB, Faerieworlds, Symbiosis, High Sierra, SF Sea of Dreams, OCF, Envision Festival Costa Rica) at underground warehouse parties and deep into the jungles of Hawaii, Southeast Asia, Mexico and Central America.
Live music and visual performances include video projections featuring world renowned visionary painters Stevon Lucero, Martina Hoffmann, Robert Venosa and Adam Fu. Their mystic visionary art comes to life when projected on the movement of “living video sculptures.”
Inspired by personal voyages leading to direct encounters with global music and dance, performances by Lunar Fire pay homage to the ancestors and future generations of urban and ethnic cultures worldwide. Aiming to uplift and inspire positive action among the communities they visit, the Lunar Fire Collective often creates benefits to support women, children, the arts, arts education, sustainability projects and open media sources around the world.
