OLDPEOPLE Leipzig OLDPEOPLE is a constant struggle. The desire to please people meets the rejection of the mainstream. Driving rhythms and catchy melodies challenged by demanding lyrics and detuned sound spheres. The debut EP is everything you want it to be. Alternative, post punk, new wave, indie... what else? Why bother finding a name for it, in the end it's all pop anyway. The instruments don't change, the set-up is small. Still each song seems to drift off to follow its own little path, musically. They connect in their lyrical approach on all the reasons for our restless minds and how to deal with them. The title track loose ends ties all those waving strings together to finish the collection a little more chill. Don't be fooled by its mellow vibe, a little surprise outburst is hidden somewhere in the middle. With a broad band history in genres such as folk, pop, indie, punk, post-rock and hardcore, OLDPEOPLE were supposed to leave all that behind. The initial goal: chillwave from the living room, with only a few microphones and a laptop. The more songs, the greater the urge to do more with it. Because the demos lacked something, they were brought into the rehearsal room. Analog drums, amp feedback and some honest little fuck-ups gave the sound some soul - some edge - if you will.
