Trombonist/composer/arranger. In 2001 he won the Erasmus jazzprize and played in Carnegie Hall, NY with his B&W Quintet'. He founded the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra in 2004 together with friend Rob van de Wouw. He did projects with a.o. Carla Bley & Steve Swallow, Jason Lindner, Mark de Clive Lowe, Benjamin Herman, Eric Vloeimans, Frank Moebus, Nicolas Payton,Yuri Honing, Frank Lacy, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, etc etc. In 2012 the RJO merged into the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, initiating projects with filmmusic, Anton Goudsmit, DJ Kypski, Ernst Reijseger and so on. Louk is well sought after as a sideman playing with: Caito Marcondes, Martin Fondse, Metropole Orchestra, NDR bigband, WDR bigband, New Cool Collective, Paul Weller, Paul van Kemenade, Big Bizarre Habit, Liquid Spirits etc etc
With his own horn section The Special Request Horns, together with trumpeter Jan van Duikeren and saxophonist Guido Nijs they played with: BEEF!,Candy Dulfer, Lionel Richie, Kenny B, Caro Emerald, Diana Ross etc etc and are currently working for a.o. Marco Borsato, Racoon and the Golden Earring.
Louk's a passionate writer/composer as well and his main vehicles now are Fullduplexx, THE NRJO and his new trio together with guitarist Anton Goudsmit and reedsman Nils van Haften. Recordings of the trio are soon to be released!
