Lorrie Delon has spent the past two years living life in Athens, Georgia. The native Texan originally moved to the college town years before to attend The University of Georgia (UGA) and study Journalism. After graduation she worked at the local radio station, Bulldog 103.7, later moving to Atlanta taking a job as a media strategist for an international advertising agency.
Delon began having a constant feeling of being “an ant marching, just like a character out The Dave Matthews Band song, really did enjoy the job but didn't like sitting in traffic two hours a day and then at a desk fifty to sixty hours a week. One day on the car ride home began recording a short story into the cell, it became a song and from the moment of its completion knew I was a songwriter...a storyteller.”
Her best friends from college,Tony Baselici and Justin Owens, whom she met working freshman year at Pandora, the UGA yearbook, were writing stories too. They began to meet monthly at Owens-Hall, a 25-acre estate, located on the outskirts of Athens. “The music and the subjects became personal and got real…real fast.” Those songs will be on the EP "Hard To Say", scheduled for a July 2014 release, a culmination of the singer-songwriters initial conversion away from commercial jingles into personal rock, pop and blues music.
She credits Tina Turner, Paul Simon, Pearl Jam and REM as inspirations along with Bruce Springsteen, especially his 1982 album “Nebraska” which helped her find "my current voice" and Garth Brooks, "up close and personal Southern-born and bred live storytelling style."
"These songs are about our friends, our families and us. Only way I can describe this music style is home, “ Delon said, adding that she has worked hard and can’t wait for others to hear the finished product, “this may not be for everyone but I like making music with friends and it's cool that people outside our inner circle are liking it too. Right now the focus is finishing this album, making sure our music stays real and appreciating every moment of this crazy ride with loved ones. Hopefully we make some new friends and...and create music with cool people!”
