OpenArchief_RE:ACTIVATE_RadiodeVrijeKeyser by Loma Doom published on 2021-03-01T10:41:39Z OpenArchief_RE:ACTIVATE RE:ACTIVATE is an archive research project that focusses on the reciprocal relationship between media and activism and to disclose the strategies used to reinforce and exploit each-other’s mechanisms. Documented is a conversation between Radio Rataplan - a squatters station based in Nijmegen - and two broadcasters from Radio de Vrije Keyser in Amsterdam found in the archives of the International Institute of Social History. Radio Rataplan came to national fame as the mouthpiece of the Nijmegen squatters' movement, during the Pierson riots in Nijmegen in February 1981. The riots were among the heaviest squatter riots of the 1980s and Radio Rataplan was on air 24 hours a day, playing a central, directing role in the preparation and execution of the actions. The conversation of the broadcast you can listen back to here, centers on the role of radio as a catalyst for activism. Dutch spoken.
