Loafteon - guitars, softsnyths, keyboard, programming, apps, glockenspiel, "production", "mixing"
THANK YOU TO THE DEVELOPERS OF THESE FREE VSTS (many listed here I used, that should be all of them, sorry if I missed any):
VST Host and VST Seq are the programs I used to use and record these VSTS. Mixing and recording of guitar, keyboard, and glockenspiel were done in Audacity.
I'd also thank the companies which made my guitar, amp, pedal, keyboard, and laptop. However they are all big companies with enough money.
This album is based on Orson Scott Card's 1986 novel Speaker for the Dead. I enjoyed the novel, and thought its combination of strong characters, plot, setting and themes could translate into an album. The book is decent, but far from being one of my favorites. The story is difficult to retell, as this is an all-instrumental album, but the book gave me a conceptual focus while writing and recording the tracks. This album is poorly ($~0 budget) made, and the mixing, recording, and production in general is awful (especially the acoustic guitars). In many ways this album did not turn out the way I wanted. The problem is that I'm learning; learning how to play guitar (my main instrument), and teaching myself some keyboard stuff, as well as how to mix and record. I'm learning jazz guitar now, as well as some slide stuff. I tried to mix many styles (I call this album prog rock, which itself is, to me, a mix of styles) such as prog, metal, jazz, electronic, ambient, blues, folk, and industrial. I want to continue learning and recording, and perhaps one day will make a better album. I think I learned a lot from this album and the process of creating it.
