Gator Bellows by LiveTrapSound published on 2014-10-29T01:34:01Z This recording was made during early May 2014, the alligator mating season in Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Around 9:00 am the alligators tend to be the most vocal. We were fortunate to get a recording of several animals communicating. As thrilled as we were to get the recording, it leaves much to be desired when compared to the experience of actually being there. The alligators emit infrasound that is below the detection limits of our microphones and is inaudible to the human ear. Though it couldn't be heard, the vibrations could certainly be felt. Being in the presence of large carnivores making sounds this low is unique experience. The last option of the "fight, flight, or freeze" response turns out to be pretty helpful when you're trying to be quiet during the recording process. Genre Nature
