South LA Sonic Archive: The Found Sounds of Never Say Die by LitLabs Studios published on 2019-01-31T05:43:42Z This sonic archive was produced by students from field recordings conducted in South LA. Prompted to document what the neighborhood sounded like 25 years since the riots, the students scavenged sounds that commemorate what has been lost, what has endured and what they wished to preserve. LitLabsStudios collaborated with Spectral Acoustic to produce the twelfth single for the album, Never Say Die: A Sonic Tribute to the LA 1992 Rebellion, by weaving all the sounds here that students scavenged in the course of producing the album. This archive's accompanying mapping project, Resounding 1992: A Sonic Map of South LA is on display at the exhibition LA 1992/London 1780: Sounding Out A Crowd, installed at Foshay Learning Center in February, and again in UCLA in Spring of 2019. On a base map detailing the destruction of the LA rebellion, the map locates the sounds the neighborhood today.
