LD$$VOL002-03-MINDSTATE-BADMAN [LIONDUB STREET SERIES] by Liondub International published on 2013/12/27 12:07:26 +0000 Artist: Mindstate Title: Liondub Street Series Volume 2 : Vibes Label: Liondub International Catalog #: LD$$VOL002 Format: Digital Release Date: January 7th, 2014 File Under: Drum & Bass / Jump Up / Ragga Following our first blast onto the barren Brooklyn roads in our new Street Series, Liondub International returns with another debut departure, this time from Bristolian talent Mindstate. Previously associated with Briang G’s Chronic label, he has worked with Blak Twang, Congo Natty, and Rodney P for his remix of “Rebel MC” on Infidelity Records, and his style, heavily imbued with dub elements and vocals, also hits heavily on the dancefloor to make a natural fit for our new sublabel. “Vibes” takes heavy dub elements throughout, but rubs them against a harder jump-up style laced with heavy bass machinations. Contrasting the haze implied in its title, “Sensi”, is hard hitting roller that comes up into a pad-laden breakdown powered by busy drums and cut-up samples. “Bad Man” comes next, as intense as the name suggests, with hammering, tribally-influenced percussion swapping out with more spacious, dub-reggae inflected sections to deliver true damage. Next is “Blood Clot”, an intense, bassbin banger whose sparse sample and drum patterns keep the focus firmly on the bottom end. Lastly, "Nuh Smile" is a deeper, sparse drum and bass beat with heavy Ragga vocals that drop into an intense, dark, percussive masterpiece with a hypnotic LFO sub. This one rounds of the EP, showcasing perfectly what this up and coming new blood has to offer on the imprint. Featuring five tracks of slamming bass grooves, rasta shouts, and dread atmospheres, Mindstate’s Street Series debut is sure to raise the temperature wherever its sound rings out.
