Singer, songwriter and producer.
Music has always been the biggest presence in Laura Elvin's life. Born in Camden to Classical music aficionados, she grew up hearing the timeless tones of the living room piano mingle with the edgier sounds coming in through the window.
Immersion in this rich musical tapestry meant becoming a singer songwriter felt like a natural progression in a discovery of selfhood. She devoted her attention to the violin and piano and soon her powerful voice and idiosyncratic songwriting ability started shining through.
Aged 14, a friend dared Laura to sing the first song she ever wrote to the next passer-by on the street. He was so awed by her performance that he ran home to give her number to his neighbour – serendipitously, the manager of All Saints and Sugababes. That evening she sang down the phone to Ron Tom, he asked her to come in, and soon she was off on her journey.
Already a highly skilled and technical vocalist, Laura Elvin has gone on to become a fully autonomous artist and producer. Fusing elements of Jazz, Classical Music, Pop, Alternative and Rock, her multiple talents soon began to capture the attention of music heavyweights, and she now counts Island/Mercury Records' CEO David Massey among her biggest backers.
Creating intricately layered, lavish soundscapes, she lives for her passion to marry high ideals of art and poetry into relatable, heartfelt music. Drawing comparisons with Florence and the Machine, The Anchoress, Laura Mvula and Lana Del Rey, her Elvin brand of Grand Pop is dramatic, ornate, and leaning toward the fantastical.
A passionate environmentalist, Elvin now lives on a sustainable farm where she’s built a state-of-the-art recording studio. Nature makes way into her music through imagery and metaphor, as the constant force that all living beings share.
Intrepid in the face of perpetual and ruthless self-challenge, Laura Elvin’s artistic drive is holistic, and the dazzling visual and literary aspects are in symbiotic relationship to her songs. Her softly spoken, dryad demeanour belies a cerebral, all-encompassing artistic ambition.
After a sojourn away from the limelight, Laura is currently writing material for a release later this year. A thorough perfectionist, she’s vehemently honed her craft until the ideal moment to unveil her offerings to the world. Now the clock is ticking like a time bomb. Don’t miss the chance to take a magic carpet ride on the tide of the explosion.
