ENG: Estonian popstar and multi-vocalist Laura has started a new Live-session with the renowned jazz musician Villu Veski aka W. The program is brand new, danceable and it covers the styles from discobeat to JazzRave. Besides Villu Veski and Laura original music Jazztronic and other jazzartists are being mixed together.
Laura: ''Making music with W is utterly exciting. It is like being part of a movie. We travel from maffia scented Sicily to the Norwegian mountain village and from there straight on to the smokey suburbs of London. I love that we are fearlessly playful and every time music leads us to a new place. No plans!''
LAURA started her career in 2005, when she was participating in Eurolaul 2005 with the song "Moonwalk". "Moonwalk" came second, but Laura won the contest as the member of the girl group Suntribe. Suntribe represented Estonia in Eurovision Song Contest 2005. 2007 Laura started studies in Berklee College, Boston U.S., putting her music career on hold. Laura’s jazzalbum LP “Memories of Tomorrow” together with Tõnu Naissoo jazztrio, was released in Japan. In Eesti Laul 2017, she competed in a duet with Koit Toome, with the song "Verona" and won. They will therefore, represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev, Ukraine.
VILLU VESKI can only be described as a musical polymath. His versatility as a musician, composer, promoter, and lover of the arts is truly impressive. Veski finds a wide range of expression even within the narrow definition of saxophonist: one with equal range and sensitivity that transcends genres – from old swing to ethno-jazz and funky-groove – on both tenor and soprano.
He has performed in many international festivals such as the Rochester Jazz Festival in New York, the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland, Natt Jazz in Norway, the Brussels Jazz Marathon in Belgium, and the British Saxophone Congress at the Royal Music College of Music in London. Collaboration with the British soul and jazz singer Ola Onabule has been taking Veski to many festivals around the world: South Bank Centre's Choral Festival at Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Lagos Jazz Series in Nigeria, the Istanbul Jazz Festival in Turkey, the International Jazz Day RO, and many others. Veski has been an artistic director of the Muhu Future Music Festival "JUU JÄÄB" since 1997. Festival has been host some of the UK’s greatest jazz personalities, including Gilles Peterson and Ola Onabule, Jazzie B, Ben Westbeech etc.
