"Hailing from the live music capital of the world, the multi-talented Sebastian Marrs, under the pseudonym "Lab Rat" has been a neccessity in the growth of the underground EDM scene.
Lab Rat started his music career early as a teenager by experimenting with a multitude of instruments with several different live acts. Throughout the years he has picked up bass, drums, piano, and performed several genres including everything from reggae/ dub to metal and acid jazz.
Lab Rat has always thought himself to be a librarian of music. Despite his opinion on any artist, he has to be up to date and knowledgable on everything to do with the music scene around him. He took that skill to the fullest by gaining an interest in DJing. Fusing all types of genres, mashing and mixing tracks, chopping up and flipping beats, etc.
When he discovered dubstep in late 07, Lab Rat ran with it and naturally- it clicked, being that he was already so engulfed with a passion towards dub music. He was heavily inspired by early dubstep artists such as- Benga, Skream, Kromestar, F1, Caspa, and Digital Mystiks. Marrs assumed the alias Lab Rat and began grinding on his first full dubstep album in 07 at only 18 yrs old. By the end of 08, he already had 3 mixes as well an album under his belt.
Recently, Lab Rat has taken a hiatus on producing music. He is utilizing his time to experiment with all sorts of genres such as trip hop, electro swing, ragga, d&b and everything in between. Lab Rat is capable of moving any crowd in any environment. You can catch Lab Rat performing at festivals, clubs, raves, and even backing hip hop acts.
He is now, notably regarded as one of the most lively and entertaining DJ acts to see today in Austin Tx.
Lab Rat has held residencies in Austin at The Parish, Firehouse Lounge, Canvas, and Ruta Maya. He frequents all over town though at popular spots like Mad Classy Sundays at Barcelona, Karma Lounge, and Plush. He also holds an annual residency at the Austin Reggae Fest, formerly Marley Fest.
Lab Rat has shared the stage with artists such as- Bokator, BMC, Exceed, Zapper, AFK, Mad Classy, Crizzly, TDBZ, Parson, Charles Feelgood, Micro, Joe Nice, Dubtribe Sound System, Flinch, Noah D, Mark Instinct, Bare, DJ Michael 5000 Watts, Liquid Stranger, and Borgore."
