Ross Mirkarimi Fights to Remain San Francisco Sheriff After Guilty Plea in Domestic Abuse Case by KPFA 94.1-FM Berkeley published on 2012/06/01 15:45:23 +0000 San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera has released video showing suspended sheriff Ross Mirkarimi’s wife, Eliana Lopez, discussing a New Year's Eve incident that left her with a bruised arm and led Mirkarimi to ultimately plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse. Mayor Ed Lee argues that the video is a key piece of evidence needed to remove Mirkarimi from his job. Lopez and Mirkarimi had both resisted making the video public. In a statement following the video’s release, Lopez wrote, “Because of their actions, the images on that video will exist forever for anyone to see, including my son Theo, now and forever.” The release of the video comes as Mirkarimi faces an investigation by the San Francisco Ethics Commission, which will decide whether to recommend his removal from office. Mayor Ed Lee, meanwhile, has suspended Mirkarimi without pay, after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of “false imprisonment”. Ross Mirkarimi joins us for the remainder of the hour.
