They are 28-year-old Staff Sgt. Mathew R. Marsh of Long Beach, 27-year-old Sgt. Miguel Ortiz of Vista, 31-year-old Gunnery Sgt. J. Mullins of Bayou L'Ourse, Louisiana, and 32-year-old Staff Sgt. Eric W. Summers of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The U.S. Marine Corps says the accident didn’t involve live fire but was the result of a blast from unexploded ordnance. It’s the 13th death during war exercises at the San Diego-area military base since 2004. Pacifica KPFK’s Ernesto Arce files this report from Southern California.
