DADDY TEACHA's Bio:
Daddy Teacha (Teacha) ranks as one of the UK’s pioneer ‘Nu Roots’ vocalists.
Starting out with Midland’s Sound System Turbo Charge in the late 70s and early 80s,
he cemented his reputation recording with seminal Dub artists Alpha & Omega in the early 1990s,
earning Time Out magazines comparison with early Black Uhuru.
Voicing the UK Dub classic vocal track ‘David and Goliath’ for A&O’s Everyday Life LP,
featuring on many subsequent releases and touring with them since 2003.
Daddy Teacha has also toured Germany with the band, Di Iries and Gentleman.
His other recorded works with artists and labels include: Gentleman (Hypocrites and Parasites),
The Uptones (No More War), Tanty Records (Dutchy Pot Dub), OSS Records (Rally Round) and
Jamaica’s Amazon Nuziks (Miss Cassey Allstars album). Daddy Teacha has enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio One,
BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Live, Kiss FM, received top ten play listings with two German radio stations,
as well as airplay and interviews for many other national and international broadcasters.
Teacha has performed alongside many highly acclaimed reggae acts, such as The Mighty Diamonds,
The Abyssinians, Julian Marley, Dillinger, Sly and Robbie, Mad Professor, Gentleman, Pato Banton,
John Mclean, UK Apache, Sugar Minott, The Heptones, Desmond Decker, Burning Spear, Macka B,
Alpha and Omega, Iration Steppas, Don Letts, and The Disciples to name but a few.
He has appeared at venues including the Glastonbury Festival, Heineken Festival and major universities
across the UK. His extensive international tours have seen him in Montego Bay (Jamaica),
the Canary Islands, Canada, Mexico, Poland, Sweden and Germany, usually associated with and
performing with well-known sound systems. Whilst continuing to work with various soundsystems Daddy Teacha has, for
the first time, produced and released his very own debut album "DUB CLASS (Lesson one)" in co-operation
with King Dub Records on Itunes and other internet sites, displaying his versatility and talent as an
accomplished producer/writer of pulsating rythms.
Daddy Teacha has also now joined forces with two newly formed reggae bands, first The Rooticals, to deliver his
uniquely vibrant and dynamic blend of UK and Jamaican influenced Dub reggae music with meaningful and
often politically charged lyrics over pulsating rhythms, and "True Steppas" a commercial reggae outfit
performing everything from Bob Marley to Toots and the Maytals. In either medium and with either band
Daddy Teacha is guaranteed to deliver a performance that will move both your body and your minds.
