"Purveyor of music and all of its bliss...
DJ/Producer Kimball Collins is upfront, ahead of the curve and known for consistently moving the music further into the future. Hes a pioneer for debuting some of the most progressive styles of forward-thinking electronic dance music. You can feel his rush of excitement in every positive vibed set he plays. Hes an innovator of layering tracks of several stylistic directions into one cohesive and elevating set. So prepare to take a joyride on the newest sounds from dusty desert playas, exotic lands, dark romantic castles, ethereal ambient dreamscapes, sci-fi synth labs to the underground bass-heavy techno chambers. This is what makes hearing this music visionaire so much fun.
Im an avid dog lover and I play music. Thats all the most humble guy in the business will say about himself. But its his borderline-dangerous obsession, addiction for collecting fine recordings and his lifelong search for the perfect beat that keeps his pulse beating. Born in Atlanta, fueled in Orlando, now residing in Bangkok, his positive impact on music culture is recognized worldwide.
MixMag Asia corralled Kimballs foresight of selecting big tunes, artists and remixers by publishing his Underground Essentials series. He hand picks a cross section of advanced releases spanning from chill house to techno that perk up his seasoned ear.
Kimball is in tune with his surroundings when programming elevated atmospheres. He makes it a point to tour the US a couple times a year hitting clubs and weekenders. Festival highlights include sets at Wonderfruit, Kolour in the Park and Warp in Asia. One of his most talked about sets happened on the iconic Robot Heart bus at the Further Future fest, where he performed with an all-star lineup including Goldcap, YokoO, Lee Burridge, Dixon, Four Tet, &ME, DJ Tennis, Greg Wilson plus Caribou, Nicolas Jaar, HVOB and Leftfield. Robot Heart crew brought Kimball back for an extended set sharing the bill with Stephen Bodzin and DJ Three for their annual Halloween charity event in New York.
As a producer, he pays homage to his influences with new tracks, remixes, podcasts and cuts secret edits given to a select few. (Plus having the chops as a former drummer in a punk band helps keep things in the pocket). Productions with Rudiment, Moodwax and Sunju are getting solid support and play. Studios sessions go from techno, breaks, electro, acid, burner grooves, world vibes, proper house, ambient to the modernization of classics always with a common thread of positive feelings and pure soul.
He has shared the night with many of our greatest tunes-men in the history of House. The marathon sets, filled with white labels, from his legendary AAHZ booth contributed to the Orlando Sound. Considered a DJs DJ, hes recognized for breaking genres including acid house, electro, breaks, rave, trance and that epic progressive house. His annual throwback parties bring everyone out to feel that magic of his classics. Hosting the likes Sasha, John Digweed and Dave Seaman for their first stateside appearances are spoken of in mythical terms. UKs Ministry of Sound and Renaissance note Kimball as one of the early American artists to play for them.
Its his eloquent technical mixing abilities, a discerning ear for unique sounds, on-the-fly expertise to get in tune with the room that will cement a place in history for Kimball as one of the more creative DJs to ever grace the decks.
