Sounds of the Materials Collection by Kevin Dong published on 2019-04-07T22:32:54Z Kevin Dong and Raina Wellman have both worked many shifts at the Materials Collection, a part of the RISD Fleet Library that provides visitors with access to a great deal of industrial items; including polymers, plastics, wood, and organic materials. This unusual library gives guests the opportunity to touch and explore the possibilities of a wide range of matter. Kevin and Raina picked out the materials for the project, "Sounds from the Materials Collection" based primarily on formal qualities. With the intention of exposing different ways of engaging with material, beyond touch, they then produced ASMR audio experiences based on the sounds that these materials produced. Following the creation of the ASMR, both created drawn interpretations of the sounds created by each other, furthering the many possible interpretations and developments that the Materials Collection can provide.
