Why it’s time to think about human extinction | Dr David Suzuki by Kerwin Rae published on 2018-12-16T17:03:37Z After listening to this ep with Dr David Suzuki, you’ll never be the same again. The environmentalist, activist, professor of genetics and science broadcaster hits us with some home truths about what our future will look like if we continue to live the way we have been. What will life be like for our children and grandchildren? Can the damage we’ve done to the planet be reversed? Is extinction of the human race imminent? We talk about population control, the importance of renewable energy and discuss what we can do right now in our own lives that can actually make a difference. This is for anyone who cares about the future of mankind. The anthropocentric era of civilisation only lasted around 10,000 years, and has led the living planet into the sixth mass extinction – an ecological and geological transformation that is as profound as the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, currently on track to result in a planet without humans. People talk about a global ecological crisis, a climate crisis, an economic crisis, an institutional crisis, and a mental health crisis. These crises are not isolated but highly interconnected. The overlapping crises of civilisation are impossible to address via technocratic solutions delivered within the framework of financial economics. As the crises deepen, established hierarchical institutions (nation states and corporations) are giving way to globally networked collaborative efforts to share and validate knowledge, and to translate insights and ideas into creative collaborations at human scale https://lnkd.in/frfvGTG. 2019-01-03T02:29:43Z
