Cosmos by Kenley Kristofferson published on 2012-06-05T17:44:43Z A choral suite using the text of 20th-century astronomer and science popularizer, Carl Sagan. There are three movements: Mvt. 1 is about discovery ("Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known"), Mvt. 2 is about beauty ("The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together). Mvt. 3 is about space at large ("If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.") On a personal level, Carl Sagan has taught me how beautiful science and the universe can be, and that understanding something enriches the experience, but doesn't take away from the mystery that draws us to the big questions of life. He taught me that the sciences are beautiful; the natural world is elegant; and for such small creatures as we, the vastness is bearable only through love :) Composed by Kenley Kristofferson (http://www.kenleykristofferson.com) + (@kenley_k) Recorded by Antiphony (http://www.antiphony.ca) + (@antiphony_) at the Manitoba Museum (Planetarium) + (@MBMuseum) Engineered by Jonathan Pearce Text by Carl Sagan Cover Image by Paul Duffield (For another science/astronomy-related choral piece that I composed, see "We Are Stars" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIbYaYgN2Ic Genre Classical Comment by mesolude Thank you for this piece, it's meant a lot to me in the past few years. I'd really like to see this performed at an event I'm organizing. Is the sheet music available anywhere? 2015-09-07T17:54:18Z Comment by Erin Branscome Absolutely beautiful. This song always makes me feels better. It is it stupid to say it inspires me? It does, though; I listen to it when I need motivation. 2013-08-04T07:03:57Z Comment by NickyKoo paranoia 2013-02-07T06:22:03Z Comment by user780051393 http://snd.sc/ULRsx4 2013-01-09T20:04:04Z Comment by Sam Sagan I am transported to another world...Thank you 2012-06-30T05:12:25Z Comment by Sam Sagan Very lovely, thank you for this... 2012-06-30T05:09:33Z Comment by Patricia Swenson Stunning!
